Code of Conduct

Our blues dancing community is built on respect, inclusivity, and a shared love for the dance. We strive to create a safe and welcoming space for everyone, regardless of age, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, ability, or dance experience. By participating in our events, you agree to uphold the following principles.

1. Respect and Consent

  • All interactions, both on and off the dance floor, should be based on mutual respect and consent.
  • Always ask before leading someone into close embrace or attempting a dip, lift, or other weight-sharing moves.
  • If someone declines a dance, respect their decision without pressuring them.
  • A "no" is always okay, and a "yes" can be changed at any time.

3. Safe and Inclusive Environment

  • Harassment, discrimination, or inappropriate behavior of any kind will not be tolerated.
  • If you witness or experience inappropriate behavior, report it to an event organizer or designated safety person.
  • Be mindful of personal hygiene; good hygiene contributes to a comfortable dance environment.
  • Avoid wearing strong scents as some people have sensitivities or allergies.

4. Dance Floor Etiquette

  • Be aware of your surroundings and practice floorcraft to avoid collisions.
  • Apologize if you accidentally bump into someone and ensure they are okay.
  • Avoid unsolicited advice; teaching is reserved for instructors unless explicitly requested.
  • Respect your partner’s dance space and level of comfort.

5. Community Support

  • We encourage a culture of kindness and support where all dancers, regardless of experience, feel welcome.
  • Constructive feedback should only be given when invited.
  • Engage with the community in a way that fosters inclusivity and positivity.

6. Reporting Concerns

  • If you experience or witness any behavior that violates this Code of Conduct, please speak with an event organizer or designated safety person.
  • Reports will be handled confidentially and with care.
  • Anyone found violating this Code of Conduct may be given a warning or asked to leave the event, depending on the severity of the behavior.

7. Continuous Improvement

  • This Code of Conduct is a living document and may be updated to better serve the needs of our community.
  • Feedback is always welcome to ensure we maintain a respectful, safe, and enjoyable environment for all.
